I would expect this behaviour from a PocketPC, for example, but not from
a normal windows client.

3.0.3rc1 includes fixes for NTLMv2 issues regarding the correct
uppercassing semantics required for NTLMv2. This may or may not be
related to your issue.
I'll need to see a network trace, and simultaneous level 10 debug (of
3.0.3rc1 preferably) to get a better idea what's going on.
