[Samba] CATIA V5 & SAMBA Problem

I'm not sure if the problem I'm about to describe is related to
configuration or a limitation in SAMBA, hopefully you'll know the answer...

We have a SAMBA server that provides Windows workstations access to CATIA V5
CAD data which resides on other NFS servers.

The SMB shared directories are all under a single directory called
'catiav5':

/catiav5

/server1

  /cad1/catia/project1

  /cad2/catia/project2

/server2

  /cad1/catia/project3

  /cad2/catia/project4

CATIA V5 uses a light representation of CAD models to improve performance
when they are not being edited.

These files are stored in a directory on one of the NFS servers in what we
refer to as the release cache.

A UNIX process generates new cache files during the night from the CAD model
files.

When a user opens an assembly, each model file is checked against the
release cache.

If the model is newer than the cached file, then the cached file is rejected
and new locally stored light representation is generated and used instead.

If I use Hummingbird NFS to access the cached data, CATIA V5 accepts the
data and loads the light models.

If I use SAMBA with "fake directory create times" set to TRUE, approx. one
third of the release cache files will be rejected as 'out of date' and new
local versions will be generated.

If "fake directory create times" is not set, all release cache files will be
rejected.

Is this something that sounds familiar to you, or is it something that you
can help us to resolve?

Best regards,

Adam Harvey
