[Samba] Does "passwd chat debug" work?

Hi listers.

Samba 2.2.8 and RH 8. 

...

  debug level = 101

  unix password sync = Yes
  passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
  passwd chat = *New password* %n\n *Retype new password* %n\n
*passwd:*all*authentication*tokens*updated*successfully*
  passwd chat debug = yes

...

After samba restart I try to change the password from the XP box; it does'n
work so I grep -R /var/log for the passwords string, they're supposed to be
there aren't they?... Well, nothing! Anybody with a hint?
