[Samba] smbmount error (Called name not present)

Hi List,
I am having this problem with samba version 2.2.7a, whenever i try to do 
an smbmount, to a win2k machine, i get the following error:
(Called name not present)

this is the output:

$ smbmount //172.18.12.100/directory asterixc -o 
"username=domain\administrator,password=********"
INFO: Debug class all level = 1   (pid 19018 from pid 19018)
19018: session request to 172.18.12.100 failed (Called name not present)
19018: session request to 172 failed (Called name not present)

the connection works the other way around though - from the win2k client 
to the linux samba server, i can see and browse the home directory of the
user that i log in as!

Any Help would be appreciated!
