[Samba] Slow initial access from w2k workstations

I have a Samba server, version 2.2.5 running winbind. It works well
authenticating against a Windows NT 4.0 domain.

The problem I have run into is on the Windows 2000 workstations. Whenever you
use a drop-down list of drives which contain a dirve mapped to the samba server,
there is a 4 to 15 second delay before the list displays. If you disconnect the
mapping(s) to the samba server, the delay goes away.

I'm assuming this is due to either Samba needing to re-authenticate the user, or
some delay with samba providing the statistics for the display (i.e. drive size,
free space, volume name).

Has anyone experience anything similar? Any suggestions on where to start
troubleshooting? Any work-around?

Thanks,

Mike
