[Samba] Getting Win98/95 machines to connect

Sounds like it has something to do with the way the two systems
(win2k/win9x) authenticate, which would make me check out and understand
the "encrypt passwords" option in Samba.
The force user parameter might be an OK workaround for this but you'll
lose information on who owns what file (which when in comes to NT-style
networks, could be quite important, depending on the
situation/environment).
If a username and password are not required to access your Samba shares,
you should not be getting a username/password prompt - something in your
configuration needs to be changed to relax security (heaven forbid), such
as security=share instead of security=user. Or something to that effect.
If you post your smb.conf file things will be a bit easier to work out.
