I'd like to see winbindd on AIX, but it depends on having the
correct nsswitch interfaces.

These seem to be pretty common these days on UNIXen, as you're
an AIX systems specialist can you tell us if AIX will be or does
support these interfaces today ? 

We'd need help getting access to an AIX box with the correct
interfaces so we can port/test/work out the autoconf magic
to make it work.
