Yes I did. In fact, I started fresh by downloading everything from CVS.

One thing I also forgot to mention is that FreeBSD does not have a seperate 
libdl, it is part of libc. The configure script did not detect that I had 
the required library and therefore I had to manually add it to 
include/config.h. Perhaps this could also be related to the problem that I 
am seeing?
