[Samba] winbind working then not working !

having similar problems to others concerning winbindd. we got it up and
running on redhat 7.2, 2.4.9-21 kernal, rpm samba-2.2.3a-20020206. a few
problems to make it work. then rebooted machine and it no longer works.

smb and nmb appear to be working correctly. you can see the samba-server
from network neighborhood and select on the partitions. when you look at the
permissions, everything is owned by the samba-server\user+10000.

on reviewing the log winbindd can not connect to pdc. running ethereal i see
the samba server sending 2 udp packets to the pdc. but there is no response
from the pdc. part of the packet is below. both packets sent by the samba
server are the same.
