The RPM of samba 2.2.2 is available at rpmfind.net :

http://rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/redhat/7.2/i386/samba-2.2.1a-4.i386.html

Install the rpm with the command:

rpm -Uvh <name-of-RPM>

(Or use your favorite GUI tool)

In case you /do/ want to use the binaries of samba you compiled, look
in /usr/local
