[Samba] Can a Unix box act as Samba server as well as a NIS server?

If it is the NIS master it should just be files. If you bound your 
nis server to it self than you may use "files nis", I wouldn't do it 
the other way.

You will have to. /etc/passwd is the source for yppasswd and used to 
build the maps distributeted by NIS, smbpasswd is needed by the samba 
PDC. Just keep them in sync.
