[Samba] Something interesting

I noticed that when I am trying to attach to a samba share from a Win2k
machine, it sends ICMP packets, then a packet to port 445 (which is secure
smb?) then the regular packet.

Why does it send the ICMP packets first?
Is there a way to have it not send the secure smb packet?

How do I use the secure smb?
