Sounds exactly like what I was running too. But it was not all my machines
just some of them.
Based on a few replies here and some other places, I got a feeling the
machine SID on the samba server/xp box changed in my case. Sounds odd to
me, but I cannot think of anything else. So I removed and readded the
machines.
Here is what I did to get everything working as it should again...
What I did:
1. Logged in locally as the administrator on XP client. Removed the
machine from the domain. Do this simply by putting it back in a workgroup.
Reboot.
2. Removed the machine from the smbpasswd file(Do not worry about the entry
in the passwd file).
smbpasswd -x -m computer_name (without the $)
3. Restarted Samba
4. Added the machine account back
5. smbpasswd -a -m computer_name(without the $)
6. Started Samba again, and waited for Samba to become the master/domain
browser and finish all the election stuff.
7. Went back to the XP machine again, logged in as the Local Administrator,
make sure the computer name is matching before joining the domain. If
machine name is correct, switch from workgroup to domain and add the machine
back as you did before.
Everything is working for me now, I still do not have a solid answer as to
what went wrong though:o/
Will see how things turns out over the week.
Not a answer as to why it happened but I hopes it get you going!
Cheers
Sono
