Also, make sure to enable access to ports 137-139 udp/tcp as appropriate in
ipchains or iptables if you use those firewall packages.

what is 8 9 and 10?
what is the server? the samba process or a third machine?
if it is another machine I can't help you.


if you're talking about the
make sure that the username and password exist in both smbpasswd and 
/etc/passwd
make sure that your client is sending the correct username and password.

you need to specify more information to get a helpful response...
client type
samba version number
relevant contents of the samba config file
etc.
