directory permissions - SOLVED

It turns out I had left the directory mask option set to the default, which
is 0755. This is anded with any permissions change, which resulted in the
non-setting of the write group privileges.

However, when you right click the directory in the explorer in Win2K and
examine the properties tab, none of the permissions set for the directory
show - all fields are blank. Pressing the "advanced" button yields another
dialog with the actual permissions. Is this the expected behavior?
