permissions on a file

I have users that want to share an access database that is on a drive
mounted via samba from a Solaris 8 machine. I thought that samba used the
permissions on the user itself so I set the umask for the user to 000 so
that everyone would be able to use the file. The file is still being saved
as if the umask is 022. What does samba use to set file permissions.
