Secure Samba connections?

Hello to all:

I've recently installed the most recent stable version of the Samba source
files on my Slackware Linux box, including SSL support.  I also have an NT
4.0 Workstation box with Service Pack 6A.    How do I know (next to
performing packet sniffing) if successful smb connections are being made
from my NT box to my Linux box (Linux box is running smbd -D).

If the connection is not secure, how do I enable a secure connection?
