What capabilities do you want? You can use NetSaint for network
monitoring, VNC for remote control capabilities, the CMU SNMP tools for
monitoring SNMP traps and other SNMP advertised capabilities, MRTG for
graphing data, etc, etc. There's no lack of tools to so what SMS does,
though, AFAIK, there's no single "drop in" replacement for SMS either.
