Win98, DUN, and Samba

Does the PlainText password reg-hack for win9x work over PPP connections? I have a laptop that when connected to the lan, can access the samba server without issue, however, when dialed in to the internet, I get an "error 86: The password you specified is not correct..." from the win98 client when trying to access the same shares. The samba box has a world IP, and I can access it through telnet, http, etc. This works fine with win95 (all versions), and only seems to be a problem with win98.

Here's the error from the samba log file...

[2000/05/04 10:03:27, 3] smbd/reply.c:reply_sesssetup_and_X(725)

  Closing connections
[2000/05/04 10:03:28, 3] smbd/server.c:exit_server(433)
  Server exit (normal exit)

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks,

Mark
