Hi,
  I just realized you don't see it in the neighborhood at all...
Is the NT machine on the same LAN segment as the Linux box?
If not, try 
  remote announce = [IP of NT machine] 
in your smb.conf.  And make sure you have WINS configured
appropriately so that the NT box will know where to find the Linux
server.
