I think your best bet is to combine your NIS master with a Samba PDC setup.

For complete instructions on doing this, I recommend Gerry Carter's book by 
SAMS Publishing, "Teach Yourself Samba in 24 Hours".

Gerry is  a Samba team member, and has written a fantastic book.
