Hi All,

Just as I thought that I had Samba working properly, I got a failed backup
this morning. I'm running Samba 2.0.4b on a Red Hat 5.2 machine. The
backup program is Backup Express running on an NT4 workstation. I'm using
lmhosts to resolve netbios names and hosts to resolve IP addresses, both the
Linux and NT boxes have these files.

This morning's backup report showed "access denied" messages for all the
shares on the Samba server. Backup Exec ran from my NT account and I've
listed my username as an 'admin user' for all the Samba shares that need
backing up. When I look at the Samba log for the machine I see 'out of file
structures' and 'incorrect value for desired access to file'. Here's an
extract from the log:

--- [ end extract ] ---

Although I could browse the Samba shares from the NT machine, I could not
copy any of the files -- I got an access denied message. When I restarted
Samba, everything returned to normal. However, I still haven't got a good
backup.

Here's the [global] section and one share from my smb.conf file:

[global]
	workgroup = GJCTECH
	netbios name = COLOSSUS
	encrypt passwords = Yes
	log file = /var/log/samba-log.%m
	max log size = 50
	socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_KEEPALIVE
	create mask = 0777
	force create mode = 0777

[company]
	comment = Company data
	path = /home/company
	valid users = jan geoff administrator
	admin users = jan geoff administrator
	read only = No

Any ideas?

TIA,
