Occasional failure of authentication

Every once in a while a user cannot connect to one of two samba
servers. Most of the time (but not always), if he waits 15 minutes
to an hour, he can connect successfully. Sometimes he can connect to
one server, but not the other, which have the same configuration.
We are using authentication from the NT server. Samba version 2.0.3

The messages in the log file are are shown below. In this case the user
was able to reconnect quickly, but this is not always the case.
We do not even want to use smbpasswd, but it looks anyway after failing
on the password server.

We have about 120 users off and on connecting to a Sun Ultra5 and
Ultra30 Solaris 5.6 samba server.
Most people connect from NT 4.0 systems without the plain password
registry change.
Some users connect from a WTS/Metaframe and from NT 4.0 with the plain
password registry change.
