Known problem when building Samba2 with optimization?

I notice that Samba v2.0.x is built by default with the -O compiler switch.
Why is that level of optimization used rather than, say, -O2?

Are there known problems with opt levels greater than -O, and if so, are 
the problems compiler-specific?
