Problems starting smbd as a daemon

This just means smbd isn't running

You have something else (say a dead or old version of samba, or a totally
different program) running on port 139, try rebooting your machine. If you
still can't fire up smbd as a daemon then take a look in your inetd.conf
and startup scripts and see whether there is anything else that might be
binding to port 139.
