OK, it happened again and now it is not my imagination. I typed
"\\servername\sharename" in Windows 95's Start:Run and then I ran
smbstatus. This is what I got:

zeus:/var/log$ smbstatus

Samba version 1.9.18alpha14

Share mode memory usage (bytes):

zeus:/var/log$ ls -l ~eparis/*{exe,EXE}

-rw-r--r-- 1 eparis eparis 2076579 Jul 1 15:26
/home/eparis/dj369en.exe

You see? All the .exe and .EXE files in my home directory appear
locked and I was just browsing, nothing else. What's going on here?

(the connection with problems is the one with PID 9023).

: Hello all,
:
: I just saw something very weird with Samba 1.9.18alpha14.
:
: I browsed the Network Neverhood to find a Samba server, then I opened it
: to see the list of available shares and picked my home directory.
:
: When the window with the contents of my home directory was open, I
: typed "smbstatus" at the shell prompt of this server and I saw 4
: locked files. I did not understand what happened because I hadn't run
: or use any of those locked files.
:
: All the locked files had .exe extensions and were the only files with
: these extensions in my home directory.
:
: I have been trying to reproduce this since then with no success.
:
: I hope it is nothing but I'll keep my eyes open.
