smb2 leases and kernel change notify

With smb2 leases enabled, some have recommended disabling kernel
change notify (which is on by default), especially in a ctdb clustered
environment. Does anyone know the background behind that
recommendation as without kernel change notify, non-samba updates to
the local file system(s) e.g. via nfs can't be reflected in a
notification being sent to smb client. I realize that kernel change
notify is broken in some cases (multiple smbtorture notify tests fail
with kernel change notify enabled).
