Lots of random cifs* files

I tried pretty hard to search for this, but searching for Samba cifs
anything brings up a lot of other information.  :-)

There are a bunch of extra files showing up in our shares that look like
this.
cifs453c
cifs2156
cifs......

all random characters.  What are these files, and how can I get them to
either get cleared out, or hidden?  Thanks for your help.
