Does anyone know why W2K03 tries to logon with its machine account first?

Hi folks,

When I map a network drive from W2K03 on a Samba member server
(3.5.15) joined to the domain I see it try to log on using its machine
account (it is joined to the same domain) and then, when that fails,
it logs on with my cached credentials (The W2K03 system does use a
Kerberos ticket.)
