Currently a good samba startup reports:

[2012/12/13 20:25:42, 0] ../source3/smbd/server.c:1200(main)
  smbd version 4.0.0 started.
Copyright Andrew Tridgell and the Samba Team 1992-2012
[2012/12/13 20:25:42.396856, 0] ../source3/smbd/server.c:1280(main)
standard input is not a socket, assuming -D option

The attached patch adds the -D option, which according to the log
warning this is already happening anyway, this just makes those 2
lines go away, so you end up with a slightly cleaner log file, like
this:

[2012/12/13 20:50:05, 0] ../source3/smbd/server.c:1200(main)
  smbd version 4.0.0 started.
Copyright Andrew Tridgell and the Samba Team 1992-2012

I am not sure this is even worth patching, but the way I see it, if
its in the logs someone will ask about it (eventually).
