Samba4 winbind with code from samba3?

The references you have found are due to the implementation of (parts
of) the Samba3 winbindd protocol. 

There has not been a lot of work done on the source4/ winbind in the
past little while, partly because the hope is to eventually move over to
the source3 one.  However there is no current plan about how to do that,
so your patches will be very welcome in the meantime.
