Samba4 winbind with code from samba3?

Hi,

Sorry for this beginner question.
I've started digging around the samba4 winbind code in order to try to
extend it to support sfu/rfc2037 attributes.
To my surprise in a handful of files I've found references to samba3
implemetations. Are they supposed to provide an upgrade path for
samba3+winbind installations, or an attempt to port samba3 winbind
functionality to samba4? I ask to know on which part of the code shall I
start trying to attempt implementation.
