That is a very old version.  (on both, but particularly the Linux PC).
Why not at least upgrade the client?

Given how old both area, I'm not surprised that things don't work.  It
also very much depends how much apple have patched Samba 3.0.28a - you
would really have to ask Apple about their about inter-op failures.
(The Samba Team no longer supports or maintains that version).
