I would prefer to keep that in a separate branch unless there are
people that can commit to keeping it up to date. Its hard to keep
this sort of file up to date and so its likely to bitrot.

I don't see the point in adding a "make deb" (why would metze be
interested in that btw? afaik he runs SuSE), given the large amount of
tools with which Debian packages can be built and the easy with which
they can be used ("debuild / dpkg-buildpackage / debuild-builder /
sbuild" is as easy as "make deb").
