Samba error: session setup failed: Call returned zero bytes (EOF)

The basic machine is installed from SuSE 9.3, and all teh rpms came from the 
installation CD's.
I have since upgraded Samba from the SuSE 10 CD, by just installing the 
appropriate rpms.

I have also tried reverting back the the 9.3 rpms (Samba 3.0.12) with the same 
results.
I'm using openldap v2.2.23 and nss_ldap v234
