microsoft word 2000

a word file is located on the samba server ...
a computer that has xp professional sp 2 (operating system) and office 2000 opens the file ...
makes changes or does not make changes to the document ... saves ...
the file is saved and the computer generates no errors ... however a temp file of the document is also placed in the location ...
that user cannot delete the tmp file ... but another user can ...
 
why is the tmp file being created ... if i uninstall xp sp 2 ... everything works fine ... but i now have a computer that was preinstalled with service pack 2 ... that creates a problem ....
