The problem here is that no one is maintaining the nisplussam backend.
And no one responded when i posted a call for a new maintainer.
The code has since been removed from the 3.0 tree and I'm afraid
you won't have much luck in getting help to debug it.  Sorry.

The LDAP backend is much more active these days.
