Agreed, but Apple uses several corporate zone Unicode characters, that
neither libiconv nor glibc iconv support (e.g. Apple Logo) yet, as they are
not part of the Unicode standard.

Yes. We're actually using some of this code :-). We're basically just
providing our own mappings for mac charsets.
