You need to add utf8-mac gconv module to glibc and an encoding support
file for libiconv. Consult your glibc manual about details 
(info libc 'glibc iconv implementation') and then contact Glibc maintainer 
about including this gconv module to the main distribution. I think contacting 
Bruno Haible (libiconv) would be useful too if you want to be able to use 
utf8-mac via iconv on non-glibc platforms.
