problems with 2.2.3(CVS) 1.Feb.2002

Just did a fresh cvs checkout of tree 2.2.3-pre (1.Feb.2002, 15:00 GMT)

compiled with standards (just ./configure; make; make install) on
a Debian Linux Machine (Linux 2.2.18pre21, gcc 2.95.2)

it seems that one can not "overwrite" an existing file/dir.
tried it on another Linux Machine (Linux 2.4.16) with the same result.
Log says something like: error was file exists

One can add and delete and rename files but overwrite(replace)
does not work.

The clients are Windows 2000 machines with SP2 installed.

Are changes in smb.conf necessary for 2.2.3? - an old cvs checkout (around
4.December 2001) worked as expected (= existing files/dirs can be
overwritten from the client side).
I used the same smb.conf for old and new CVS-checkout and release 2.2.2.
