Can't get 'net' to access AD server.

I'm doing something stupid and need to be hit with a cluebat.

I'm trying to use the 'net' command to access an AD server.  I'm getting 
this error:  ADS support not compiled in

...but I ran configure with the --with-ads directive just to be sure.  
Has anyone run across this?
