I'm happy to announce version 0.7.5 of pam_smbpass is now available for
download. The source can be found at <ftp://ftp.netexpress.net/pub/pam/>.
This is primarily a housekeeping release; no major runtime features have been
added, and no fatal bugs have been squashed. If you already have pam_smbpass
installed and running, there are no compelling reasons for upgrading. This
version should be significantly easier to get working.
Highlights include:
* Enhanced build system that automates module configuration and compilation
(see the INSTALL file for details)
* Integrated support for Solaris (many thanks to Joshua Rigler for his help);
should now compile on Solaris with gcc
* Compatibility with Samba 2.2.0-alpha3, including support for new TDB
password databases
* Sample PAM config files which demonstrate the use of pam_smbpass in a
variety of common configurations
pam_smbpass is a stackable PAM module for Linux and Solaris that allows a
system administrator to migrate to using encrypted passwords for Samba and to
keep smb passwords in sync with unix passwords. Unlike other solutions, it
does this without requiring users to change their existing passwords or
login to Samba using cleartext passwords.
Questions, concerns, comments, and bug reports are always welcome at
