AIX static link failing ... Any ideas

Hi folks

I am trying to link statically on AIX 4.3 (in the build farm) and get 
the following error message.

 >aix1$ make testsmbc-static LDFLAGS=-L../../source/bin
 >Linking testsmbc
 >/usr/local/bin/ld:/lib/libdl.a: file format not recognized; treating as
 >linker script
 >/usr/local/bin/ld:/lib/libdl.a:1: parse error
 >collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
