Looking in the code for debugging, the bits for SIGUSR in 2.0.7 are gone in 2.2.x, and the only way I can get the log levels changed on a running process is to use the smbcontrol program or edit smb.conf and issue a SIGHUP. Am I missing something or do the man pages need updating?

You're right. I noticed this while translating man pages. That's one of
(quite a number) things that I've been correcting in original english
man pages. Soon, I'll send updates/patches.
