Thanks for your reply - it helped me understand the current status of the
bug tracking system.

I did try to discuss the issue on both the samba and samba-technical mailing
lists, but had no response. I therefore filed it as a bug - nmbd does not
appear to be operating according to (my reading of) the documentation.
("bind interfaces only" description from smb.conf (5) - 1st sentence of 2nd
paragraph)
