Pasword Lockout

Osama,

Many thanks for your reply. We did not have the password level set in
smb.conf. However I wanted to understand why the problem occurs randomly. I
have seen some other notes about the process of sending incorrect paswords
to check for a broken NT password server but I am not certain yet which case
applies to our particular flavour of this problem. We seem to get some users
experiencing lockouts for a couple of days then they are fine for a week or
two then the problem occurs again. I think it might be time related?

Anyway if you have any further thoughts on this they would be very much
appreciated - thanks again for your time.

Regards,

Dave

Dazu meine Meinung:

Hi Dave,

in our case the problem was caused by samba trying different forms
of the password (like "password", "PASSWORD", "Password", etc.)
Since the first attempts failed and our NT PDC is configured to lock
any account after three logon failures, accounts were locked
randomly.

Our solution was to adjust the "password level" parameter in smb.conf
Since I'm not working there anymore I can't tell You the exact setting
anymore - sorry. Perhaps this helps nevertheless.

Greetings from Germany,
Osama
