Best bet is the samba at samba.org mailing list.  This list is for in-depth 
technical discussions of Samba and the SMB/CIFS protocol suite.

The 'gotchas' is that no one supports 1.9 any more, and dozens of bugs 
have been fixed since then.  2.0.7 is the current stable release.
