I brought down 2.0.6 and compiled it with: (gcc -v output)
# gcc -v
Reading specs from /usr/freeware/lib/gcc-lib/mips-sgi-irix6.2/2.8.1/specs
gcc version 2.8.1

When I try to spin up smbd, no erros go to stderr, but I get this in the
log:
# tail log.smb
[2000/02/09 10:07:12, 8] lib/util.c:fcntl_lock(2747)
  fcntl_lock 4 6 0 1 2
[2000/02/09 10:07:12, 8] lib/util.c:fcntl_lock(2838)
  Lock call successful
[2000/02/09 10:07:12, 4] locking/shmem_sysv.c:sysv_shm_open(547)
Trying sysv shmem open of size 1048576
[2000/02/09 10:07:12, 0] locking/shmem_sysv.c:sysv_shm_open(593)
ERROR semctl: can't IPC_STAT. Error was Bad address
[2000/02/09 10:07:12, 0] locking/locking.c:locking_init(174)
ERROR: Failed to initialise share modes

I can append the whole log if you'd like (it's a -d 10 log, as a word of
caution) :)

Did I mess up somewhere while compiling?

this is on IRIX64 6.5

If you do a hundred battles and you know yourself and you know your enemy,
you
will win all of them. If you do a hundred battles and you know yourself but
do
not know your enemy, you will win half of them. Likewise, if you do a
hundred
battles and you know your enemy, but do not know yourself, you will win half
of
them. If, however, you do a hundred battles and you know not neither
yourself
nor the enemy, you shall certainly lose all of them. That is the importance
of
knowledge.
