you're out of luck, then.

that's, if you ask me, a stupid policy.  what if the win9x clients aren't
set up correctly (which they aren't)?

oh, it's broken.... but you're not allowed to change it!

the alternative is that for every single win9x box you are going to have
to put it on a network, with a samba server _Also_ on that network (even
if there are only two mahcines on every single network), and have the
samba server do "wins proxy = yes" and do the dial-ups _for_ the win9x
boxes and route the connection _For_ the win9x box.

tell you what, even better: trash win9x and put linux and vmware on each
box, you'll have a better setup.
