Modem access via SMB

Does anyone have any experience with those remote modem banks that one is
supposed to be able to access via SMB etc?

In particular, does anyone have any specs on how they do it or traces of
such a session?

It seems I have a need for such a thing, and it would be nice is Samba
could share modems as well as files ...
